Robert “Bob” Anderson

-

Robert “Bob” Anderson of Walpole, New Hampshire died on February 13, 2025. He was 80 years old. He leaves behind his wife, Louise, his three children, and many other family members and friends.

Bob was born in Massachusetts in 1944 the son of Robert Anderson, Sr. and Genevieve Anderson. As the child of an Air Force pilot, he grew up in many different parts of the United States, but the family always returned to Massachusetts where he loved visiting his grandmother and aunts and uncles, savoring homemade root beer from a family recipe and swimming in Wyman’s Pond. Bob graduated from high school in 1962 after playing basketball and once infamously scoring on the wrong basket. He then went on to college, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree, in Mathematics in 1966 from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. After college, Bob began working as a software engineer for IBM where he worked for 30 years.

While in college, Bob met his future wife of 56 years, Louise McCarthy, and they married on September 21, 1968. They had three children, Todd, Christina and Jon who they raised in a small town in Massachusetts. Bob made family his priority turning down promotions that would have required the family to move. He got a book on a game he had never played, soccer, in order to help his children’s teams as an assistant coach. He developed a passion for photography, and especially loved taking photographs of his children’s sporting events and school plays.

After their kids had graduated college, Bob retired and Louise semi-retired. They moved to Walpole a town with which he fell in love. Bob loved Walpole and served the community on the Board of Adjustments and the broadband committee, and petitioned for solar panel incentives.

In Walpole, Bob and Louise made a wonderful group of friends, with whom they went on walks, played tennis, and just enjoyed each other’s company. Their walking group mostly walked the trails of Walpole, but also went on adventurous hiking trips to places like Louisiana and even Scotland. Bob and Louise also hosted a number of summer parties in their big red barn with live music and people camping in their field until Louise decided that they had gotten too out of hand.

Bob loved telling stories and he loved hearing stories of the goings on of his kids, grandkids, nieces and nephew. He was frequently cracking jokes and otherwise trying to get a laugh, a trait he passed on to his eldest child.

Preceding Bob in death was his brother, Bill. Remaining to cherish Bob’s memory and pay forward his great hugs, are his wife, Louise; children, Todd, Christina, and Jon; sisters, Judy and Jeanne; grandchildren, Cayden, Colby, Caoimhe, and Dahlia; nieces and nephews, Michelle, Justin, Kelly, Alyson and Kaitlyn.
