Katherine “Kathy” Mary (Pelton) Targett of Keene, passed away on March 12, 2024, after a long illness.

She was born on April 18, 1944, in Langdon, the fifth of eight children of Roger and Veronica (Soucie) Pelton. She was raised in Langdon, and graduated from Vilas High School in 1962.

From 1962-1963, she attended Wilfred Beauty Academy in Boston. After completing her training, she worked as a beautician in salons in Keene and Nashua.

She and Hugh Targett went on their first date in July 1966. They were married almost four months later on October 29, 1966, and were married for over 50 years. She worked side-by-side with Hugh as the bookkeeper for Targett Cleaners from 1970 until her retirement in 2012.

Kathy loved plants and gardening, sewing, upholstery, rug making, and visiting the beach. She was known for her mile-high apple pies, chocolate chip cookies, and amazing potato salad that she loved to bring to family gatherings. She could light up the room with her smile and get you laughing in nearly any situation.

She is survived by her children, Cassandra Targett and husband, Lance of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and Timothy Targett of Keene; two grandchildren, Olivia Targett and Victor Targett of Keene; a brother, Michael Pelton of Langdon; a sister, Anne Pratt of Surry; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. The family especially thanks Shannon Class and Kristin Targett for their care and friendship to Kathy in the last years of her life.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and five brothers, Francis, Roger Lee, Bill, Walter, and Ed Pelton.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home, 55 Westminster Street, Bellows Falls, VT. Burial will be private at a later date.
