Elsie L. Weiser

October 3, 1930 - October 27, 2022

Elsie L. Weiser, of Canterbury, NH, formally of Westminster, VT passed away peacefully on October 27, 2022. Elsie was born on October 3, 1930, to Edward Lievens and Alice Rundquist.

Elsie is survived by her three children, Roberta “Bobbi” Weiser, Kevin Weiser, and Harry Weiser; grandchildren, Krista Weiser, Dustin Weiser, Erik Weiser Hotsenpiller, and Lindsey Weiser; and great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Skylynn, and Ella. She is predeceased by her husband, Harry E Weiser, and her eldest granddaughter, Marie Weiser Hotsenpiller. 

Elsie was a much-loved member of the community. She impacted so many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Elsie began her career as a physical education teacher, first at Rivier College and later at Bellows Falls Middle School. In her last few years before retirement, she served as a guidance counselor. Elsie was a basketball officiate from 1951 until 2004. At that time, she held a national rating from DGWS and was involved in IAABO, where she served as the chair of the Women’s Coordinating Committee for eight years and served on two other committees. She coached field hockey at the high school level and basketball and softball at both the high school and college levels. She also officiated at the high school and college levels for all three sports. Elsie served on many committees including the Title IX Coordinator for the Wyndham Northeast Supervisory Unit, the Area Chemical Abuse Prevention Team (ACAPT), and the Vermont Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the New Agenda Northeast Women’s Sports Organization. Elsie was an inductee into the first Vermont Principal’s Association Hall of Fame, class of 2003. In 2009, she was recognized by IAABO and received lifetime membership status for her contributions to officiating. Additionally, she was the first woman in the US to receive this honor.  

Calling hours will take place on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home, 55 Westminster Street, Bellows Falls. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, November 5 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place next week with the family. In Lieu of flowers, please consider the American Cancer Society.  

Arrangements are entrusted to the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home, 55 Westminster Street, Bellows Falls.
