Aurelien “Aurel” J. Giguere

October 14, 1947 - December 23, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aurelien “Aurel” J. Giguere, who left us unexpectedly on December 23, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on October 14, 1947, in Sainte Aurelie, Quebec, Canada to the late Antonio and Anne Marie (Laberge) Giguere.

Aurel was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Louiselle (Desrochers) Giguere with whom he shared 54 years of love and adventure until her passing on June 30, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his younger sister, Andree “Tipie” Miller. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Young) Giguere whom he married on October 26, 2024. Though their time together was brief, it was filled with love and many treasured moments. He is also survived by his children, Mario (Olga) Giguere, Carole (Andre) Sawyers, Vicky (Elaine) Giguere and two grandsons, Justin and Jason Nadeau. He leaves behind his brothers, Jeanot (Michelle), Charles (Sylvia), Yves (Nancy), Rejean (Roxine), and sisters, Lucie (Marcel), Marie (Herman) and brother-in-law, Glenn Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, business family, business associates, and friends (old & new) who will carry his memory forward.

Aurel grew up on a farm in Sainte-Aurelie and married Louiselle in 1969. They moved to Hartford where he pursued work in the construction industry. Over time, Aurel became co-owner of Valley Homes, LLC and helped establish Truss MFG, Inc., a family-run manufacturing company that has served New England and the Tri-State area for over 40 years.

Aurel loved to spend time in his many workshops building birdhouses, furniture, and many other woodworking projects. He loved showing off his wood mill whenever visitors swung by. He always had a project either in progress or mostly finished. He was there for his family and friends, whether it was a helping hand or a good laugh. He never met a person he didn’t like except for telemarketers. He enjoyed traveling, camping and building a new shed for his wife, Barbara’s campsite in upstate Vermont. He valued every friendship he made during his life. Aurel will always be remembered for his warmth, generosity and most of all his kindness.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Ste. Rose de Lima Catholic Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA on January 11 at 9:00 AM followed by a memorial luncheon at La Notte,17 Thompson Road in East Windsor, CT from 11:00-2:00 PM.
