Gloria Helen (LaRoche) Hodgkins
Gloria H. Hodgkins of Walpole died on October 6, 2026, at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.
She was born on September 16, 1934, in Peterborough, NH, daughter of Arthur W. and Helen (Despres) LaRoche.
Gloria grew up in Keene, NH on a little farm. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Keene High School in 1952.
As a teenager, Gloria was active in 4-H; winning many awards and trips. It was a great experience for a country girl.
While in high school, Gloria worked at Fishermans 5&10 and then at Peerless Insurance Co.
Thanks to her sister and future brother-in-law, she met Ralph Alwyn Hodgkins in November of 1955. Love at first meeting, they were married on June 2, 1956. They shared a great life together along with their four sons: Dana, Roger, Kevin and John.
Gloria was active in the Catholic Church, teaching religion class, as well as training Altar Servers for over 30 years. She was a Eucharistic Minister for many years and belonged to the Ladies Group.
When her sons were young, she was Cub Scout Den Mother. In 1970, Gloria and her sister, Theresa took over the bookkeeping duties for the family excavation business. A job she truly enjoyed until age 70.
Gloria and Ralph enjoyed hosting gatherings for family and friends, at the “partyhouse,” and their yearly trips to Alaska to be with their son, Kevin and his family.
The highlights of their retirement years were joining several Country Tours and trips to Florida.
For the past three years, Gloria was an active participant in the Age in Motion exercise group in Walpole. The friendships that she developed were a sustaining force each week and provided her great joy.
Gloria’s husband, Ralph passed away on January 12, 2023. She is survived by her four sons and their wives: Dana & Kathryn, Roger & Beth, Kevin & Carol and John & Suzanne. She is the proud Grammie to 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Rosemarie Flanders and Jeannette Gardner and brother-in-law, Gregory from Keene, a brother-in-law, Glenn Richardson from Springfield, VT, as well as many nieces & nephews.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents, her brother, George & wife, Pat, her sister, Theresa & husband, Reginald, little sister, Pauline, brother-in-law, Ronald Flanders and sister-in-laws, Annie LaRoche and Shirley Richardson.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home, 55 Westminster Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church in North Walpole, NH. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
