Stephen Douglas Blake, Sr

June 20, 1939 - November 15, 2025

Stephen Douglas Blake, Sr., 86, of Alstead, NH passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, surrounded by his children and loved ones. Born June 20, 1939, in Springfield, VT he was the son of Frank “Bucky” Blake, Sr. and Virginia “Jean” Blake. Stephen has gone on to join the love of his life, his wife, Dorothy, his parents, and his sister, Carla Messer who have all predeceased him.

Stephen proudly served 21 years in the United States Army, including distinguished service with the Department of the Army Special Photographic Office (DASPO). His work as a military photographer took him around the world, supporting vital photographic and intelligence missions. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal (4th Award) and was honorably discharged in 1975.

Following his military career, Stephen continued a life of service. Together with his wife, Dorothy he fostered and advocated for many children through DCYF. He later worked for the Keene Sentinel and remained active in his community as a mason, town moderator, member of the Vilas Pool Board, and Deacon of the Third Congregational Church of Alstead.

Stephen had a deep love of nature, animals, and the outdoors. Known for his humor and adventurous spirit, he especially enjoyed traveling with his family, time spent in the mountains and along the coast, and driving his beloved bright orange Volkswagen camper.

He is survived by his brother, Frank Blake, his nine children, Stephen Jr., Michelle, Michael, Deb, Amanda, Nichole, Brandy, Jennifer, and James. They will remember him as a devoted father, a man of kindness, and someone who gave generously to others throughout his life. He also leaves 22 grandchildren, more than 30 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 17 at 2:00 PM at the Third Congregational Church in Alstead, NH.
