Irene May Toussaint passed peacefully on July 11, 2025. She was born in Nashua, NH to Agnes and Dana Robbins on March 17, 1928, and raised by her beloved grandparents, Anthony and Agata Nauceder in Bellows Falls, VT. Upon graduating from Bellows Falls High School in 1946 she married her high school sweetheart, Gordon Toussaint. They made their home on Burt Street in Bellows Falls raising their family of nine children.

Irene was a homemaker for most of her adult life caring for her family like only she knew how. Family was the most important part of her life devoting her time and energy to them. One of her greatest pleasures was having home parties with her family no matter what the occasion.

She had a love for music and sang in the Saint Charles Church choir for several years, as well as the local theatre choir. She enjoyed gardening, berry picking and going to plays taking family and friends along.

When her family was grown, she and Gordon travelled to different parts of the country. They also camped with family for many years. She worked in the family paint store on weekends in Bellows Falls until it was sold.

She was cared for by her daughters and son-in-laws after Gordon’s passing. She became a resident of The Gill Home in 2024 where she was loved by all the caretakers for her kindred spirit and gratefulness.

Our mother was a loving, thoughtful, and very caring person to all. She knew that the most important things in life weren’t things, but kindness to others and spending time together. Until her last day on earth, she was the peaceful person that we were so grateful to have for many years. Her heart was larger than life and will be dearly missed by all.

She was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, her parents, her daughter, Virginia McGuire, brothers, Buster Robbins and Paul Robbins and two grandchildren. She is survived by family including sons, Nelson (Kathye), Norman, Barry, Mark, Tim (Robin) and daughters, Peggy, Linda (Ralph) and Maryann (Dan), several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held August 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Saint Charles Cemetery in Bellows Falls VT.
