Paul A. McGuirk

July 10, 1939 - July 4, 2024

Paul A. McGuirk, of County Road in Walpole died Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Keene Center Nursing Home where he resided for the last three years. Paul was born July 10, 1939, in Bellows Falls, VT the son of James and Eleanor (Stearns) McGuirk. He was the youngest of eight children. He attended schools in North Walpole and was a 1957 graduate of Bellows Falls High School.

Paul excelled in football and was selected for the annual Shrine Game. Paul proudly served his country in the US Army. Paul worked for a number of local businesses before making a career with the US Postal Service. Paul retired in 1992 as Post Master in Walpole. Paul served on the Select board in Walpole, NH, as well as the New Hampshire State Legislature from 1992-2002.

Paul never married and lived with and cared for his mother until her death in 1999. After his mother’s passing, the family home on Pine Street was sold and Paul moved to County Road in close proximity to Great Brook Farm where he spent his leisure time helping with farm work for his long-time friends, Bob and Peter Graves. Paul also had a passion for Harness Horse Racing and NASCAR.

Survivors include his sister, Jane Johnson, and brother, John McGuirk, many nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Margaret, sister, Barbara, and brothers, James, George, and William.

Paul will be remembered for his phenomenal memory. Until the end, he was a wealth of information about family history, North Walpole neighbors, and general local history. He was skilled in math and bookkeeping and kept Keene Center Nursing Home and insurance companies on their toes over billing errors.

A Memorial Mass will be said at St. Peter’s Church in North Walpole on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM. A private burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Drewsville, NH.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Fenton and Hennessy Funeral Home, 55 Westminster Street, Bellows Falls, VT.
